Riverview Park Revitalization
Riverview Park is a hidden gem located on the Indian River Lagoon in south Melbourne. The 15 acres of green space in the heart of the south U.S. 1 corridor currently features a playground, large pavilion, and small boat launch.
When the City of Melbourne acquired Riverview Park from Brevard County in 2012, it was clear that the park was an urban oasis, yet under-served for many years and ready for revitalization.
In 2014, the Melbourne City Council adopted a Master Plan that included numerous of proposed upgrades at Riverview Park. These improvements are intended to rejuvenate the park into a recreational destination and economic driver for the entire community.
The park will be a recreational magnet for locals and tourists alike, accommodating special events, outdoor enthusiasts, and families seeking refuge and recreational opportunities.
The future amenities include:
- A new playground (completed August 2016)
- Installation of five 20’ x 20’ shade canopies around the playground.
- Paved pedestrian multi-use trail.
- Renovations to the existing pavilion.
- Shoreline restoration.
- Children’s splash park.
- Fishing pier.
- Roundabout park entrance.
- Sand volleyball courts.
WHY GET INVOLVED:
A restored and improved park will be a community asset and a special place of play once again for children and families from our region, and visiting guests. It will reflect our region’s spirit and dedication to an excellent quality of life, promote wellness and challenging play, and create memories for years to come.
Riverview Park updates will take place over the next several years, and will be funded by a combination of municipal funds, grant monies, and contributions from generous community members like YOU.
Please show your support by purchasing a customized engraved picket ($100.00) for the fence surrounding the park’s new playground. Our initial goal is to raise $30,000, and every dollar raised goes toward future Riverview Park amenities. Show your support by donating today!
