SWIM LESSON SESSIONS:

Session 1: June 4, 2018 - June 14, 2018
Session 2: June 18, 2018 - June 28, 2018
Session 3: July 9, 2018 - July 19, 2018
Session 4: July 23, 2018 - August 2, 2018

Swim Lesson Fees: $45/Resident & $53/Non-Resident

Swimming lessons will be cancelled if there is thunder/lightning five minutes before regular scheduled class time or during the class. The City of Melbourne will provide one make-up lesson on Friday if lessons are cancelled due to inclement weather. During the session, NO makeups or refunds will be available for cancellations exceeding the one-day make-up allowance.

Class Descriptions:

Parent/child Aquatics (Ages 6-36 months). Parent/Child Aquatics is designed to orient young children to the water and prepare them to learn to swim in the American Red Cross preschool courses. This class will give parents safety information and teach them techniques to help them orient their children to the water. It also provides direction regarding how to supervise water activities in a responsible manner.

Preschool Levels 1-3 (Ages 3-5 years).  Basic introductory water skills such as pool entry and exit, submerge face, blowing bubbles and supported back and front flats are practiced.

  • Level 1 (Ages 5 years & older)  - Introducing necessary safety and survival skills. Basic introductory water skills such as submerge face/head, blowing bubbles, and supported/unsupported back and front floats are practiced.
  • Level 2  (Ages 5 years & older)  - Independent water entry and exit, submerge head, unsupported front/back floats and glides and treading water will be practiced.  Swim using any combination of arm and leg action for 15 feet will be performed on front, back, and side.

Level 3  (Ages 5 years & older)  - Sitting and kneeling dives, rotary breathing, front and back glides with two different kicks for each, tread water for 30 seconds

Level 4 (Ages 5 years & older) - This class will build on skills learned in level 3.  Compact of stride dive, feet-first surface dive, open turn with streamline push off, tread water one minute using either modified scissors, breaststroke or rotary kick and sculling arm motions.

Adult Swim Classes - Designed for adults who want to conquer a fear of water and learn to swim. **Certified Swim Instructors will determine skill levels.**+
